Power of Dyslexic Thinking
Dyslexia has been found to have three main ingredients which are responsible for both the negative attributes of dyslexia and dyslexia’s wonderfully positive and powerful attributes.
Individuals with dyslexia have the following abilities:
- A certain way of thinking called picture thinking
- A natural perceptual talent that causes the individual to actively disorient
- A specific way of reacting to the perceived disorientation
1. Picture thinking is the ability to do just as it states, think in pictures or with pictures. Thinking in pictures is like making a 3D movie with full color details. Memory then acts like huge racks of DVD’s that can be searched, categorized and organized. When retrieving a memory, the picture thinker simply just pulls the DVD off the shelf and plays it in their imagination at speeds faster than most of us think. Most often picture thinking is so fast that the individual is not even aware of the process. As an example, being able to know the correct answer in math, but not being able to show how you got that answer or being able to restate the thought process you have gone through to get the answer. They got the right answer, but just can’t tell people how they got it.
Thinking in pictures is not the same as linear thinking or thinking in words. Picture thinking is just that, pictures of things, concepts, and so on. Picture thinkers understand and grasp concepts being taught much faster than those that use words to think with because they can develop the concept visually in their imagination changing it as they receive more information. With word thinking there normally are no pictures present in the imagination. One is not better than the other, simply two distinct ways of forming thoughts and memories.
2. Dyslexic’s have a wonderful perceptual talent. In fact, it is hard to keep things hidden from them. Dyslexic’s notice their environment much more than non-dyslexic individuals. But, unfortunately, this gives them the appearance of being distracted or not paying attention. Don’t be fooled, surprising enough, they pay attention a lot more than it appears.
3. Dyslexia has an amazing condition called disorientation. This puzzling aspect of dyslexia shows itself in symptoms the dyslexic individual displays. Disorientation is caused when your brain becomes confused when it receives conflicting information from your senses. The brain tries to rectify the conflicting information and can’t. Confusion causes, perception are altered; time may slow or speed up; balance may be altered; and senses are altered in some way. During this time of confusion, the brain is not receiving the correct information according to reality and until the confusion is abated, the dyslexic individual will display symptoms. Triggers or causes for the disorientation, can be as simple as a single letter or smell. Memories (good/bad) are sometimes associated with the triggers as well.
The good news is that disorientation can be controlled and even corrected. When the dyslexic individual learns how to recognize and control disorientation the symptoms resolve themselves.
When the dyslexic individual learns to control the disorientation he or she is experiencing, learning become natural, fun and easy. The Learning Unlocked™ program has been designed to relieve the negative learning hurdles while enhancing the positive side of dyslexic individual’s natural mental abilities. The program teaches them in a way that makes sense to them. And it corrects dyslexia effectively, naturally and without drugs.
