The Dyslexic Experience

It is hard for a dyslexic individual to describe what they see or experience.  Too often we as parents and teachers dismiss what they say because it sounds too far fetched.   Even being dyslexic myself, I had trouble understanding my son’s difficulties.  Here are some pictures that will help you “see” what some dyslexic’s experience with the symbols of our language.   Disorientation makes the dyslexic mind see these things.  The good news is that it can be corrected easily and quickly.

Often, dyslexic’s complain about seeing the word moving or waving. Sometimes they just to see the word – it is missing for them.

Trying to make sense of the word teapot. Dyslexic’s can turn the letters around and around trying to get it right.

Some dyslexic’s have trouble making sense of the symbols in our language because the letters may look one way one time and another way the next time they come across them.  Individuals may know a word one time and then not recognize the same word the next time it is in countered.

Some dyslexic individuals will skip words when they read, even words that they have previously read before.  Some, who can read “fine” just get headaches when reading and/or have to re-read the same passages over and over again to comprehend them.

Some just have balance issues or simply can’t catch a ball.

Each individual dyslexic has different symptoms and abilities.  The Learning Unlocked Program is customized to each individual student.
